The R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl and Allstate Sugar Bowl held its eighth annual Cheer and Football Clinic, presented by Chevron on Saturday, July 19 at Harrell Playground. More than 350 local youth, ages 5-14, participated in the clinic.
To begin the day's activities, former New Orleans Saints running back, Deuce McAllister welcomed participants and spoke on the importance of getting an education. Following McAllister’s speech, participants learned the fundamentals of the game, under the direction of regional collegiate football coaches, including coaching staff members from Southern, Nicholls State and Tulane universities. Additionally, former Saintsations and other professional cheerleaders taught cheer participants sideline cheers and dances. Throughout the day, players were encouraged to stay hydrated and given the opportunity to sign up for New Orleans Recreation Department’s (NORD) fall football and cheerleading programs. To conclude the clinic, dance and cheer participants performed a dance for parents and staff, along with their coaches. All who attended the clinic received lunch and a free clinic t-shirt.
