Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation Announces Date for 2005 Wyndham New Orleans Bowl.

The 2005 Wyndham New Orleans Bowl, which matches the Sun Belt Conference Champion against a Conference USA opponent, will kickoff in the Louisiana Superdome at 7:00 pm, CST, on Tuesday December 20th, 2005.

The date announcement, finalized by ESPN, is one week later than the previous four contests, which traditionally kicked off the bowl season in the second week of December. Moving the Wyndham New Orleans Bowl to this later date resolves a number of concerns by Bowl officials, university administrators, and conference representatives. Of paramount importance, the new date alleviates any conflicts between the Bowl game, (and bowl related events), and a majority of university exam schedules.

“Because of our previous conflict with exam schedules, everyone involved in securing this date is obviously very excited about the potential it creates. Accommodating the students and universities is the number one priority for the Wyndham New Orleans Bowl”, commented Billy Ferrante, Executive Director of the Bowl. “The cooperation from ESPN to move our date accomplished a number of things, but most importantly, it allows the student athletes and fans to wrap up their academic priorities prior to focusing on the Bowl game and weekend festivities.”

“We are pleased with this date for the Wyndham New Orleans Bowl,” said Dave Brown, Vice President, ESPN programming and acquisitions. “This game will continue to serve as a great kickoff to our ESPN Bowl Road Trip week of pre-Christmas bowl programming.”

Finally, December 20th creates an additional opportunity for visitors to the city to experience Christmas New Orleans Style. Gary Froeba, General Manager/ Area Director of Operations for Wyndham Hotels, recognizes the value this date means to the hospitality industry, “The weekend prior to Christmas is an incredible time to visit New Orleans. Wyndham New Orleans Bowl fans will get a chance to experience the city at one of its best times for downtown hospitality, shopping, and seasonal celebration. From Christmas Under the Oaks, to Caroling in the French Quarter, this year’s New Orleans Bowl will be even that more special.”

The 2005 Wyndham New Orleans Bowl will be broadcast live on ESPN, and is currently scheduled to remain the first bowl game of the year. For more information on the Wyndham New Orleans Bowl, please visit www.NewOrleansBowl.org.
