North Texas Notes and Quotes from Saturday practice (#2) in New Orleans
- North Texas was without linebacker Taylor Casey and safety Craig Jones for Saturday's practice. The two flew back to Denton to partake in graduation ceremonies before returning to New Orleans later tonight. Casey and Jones are both playing in their third New Orleans Bowl. They both earned all-conference honors this season.
- Rain forced the Mean Green to practice indoors today, with the team moving to the brand new Saints indoor practice facility. The team was scheduled to practice outdoor at the Saint facility but enjoyed the indoor facility that the Saints built prior to the 2003 season.
- The offensive and defensive lines switched roles in practice with the offensive line getting a chance to practice pass rush drills against the defensive line. Defensive end Adrian Awasom was the star for the defense as his blocking was perfect. He had four consecutive knockdowns and didn't allow a single offensive lineman to reach the "quarterback".
- North Texas got its first introduction to the playing surface that it will play on in the Superdome on Tuesday. The Saints indoor practice facility and the Superdome both installed the new "artificial" surface that has a ground rubber base with synthetic blades of grass.
Quarterback Scott Hall
"I think preparation is going well. We finally have everyone healthy and we are getting good reps with everyone. It's the first time since early in the season that everyone is practicing at full strength.
"We had some free time yesterday afternoon and evening so a lot of us were able to walk around the French Quarter and take in the sites of New Orleans. It was good to have some time to just hang out and not have to worry about football.
"I think it is an advantage that we have been here before and we know how to handle all of the things that New Orleans has to offer. The first year I think we were a little starry-eyed, but now we know that we are down here to play a football game."
