NEW ORLEANS -- The inaugural New Orleans Bowl is history, but the game is still making news.
ESPN 2 announced Wednesday that the first-time event was rated as the third-highest viewed bowl game in the network's history.
The New Orleans Bowl pulled a 1.37 national rating, which translates into 1,125,685 viewers. The only other bowl games with higher ratings on ESPN 2 were the 2000 Mobile Alabama Bowl (1.83 rating and 1,346,978 viewers) and the 2000 Las Vegas Bowl (1.60, 1,177,782).
"This is great news for the New Orleans Bowl," said Ron Maestri, the event's executive director. "It's another great step for the future of our game."
