CSU's First Workout in New Orleans

New Orleans, La./Dec. 15, 2001 - Colorado State University football
coach Sonny Lubick put the Rams through a two-hour workout Saturday at
Tulane University, the team's first workout in the city where Tuesday
night's first-ever New Orleans Bowl takes place in the Louisiana
Superdome (ESPN2; 7 p.m. CT/6 p.m. MT).
Lubick said the biggest task facing his 6-5 team is stopping the
University of North Texas' potent ground game.
"It's critical for us to play well on defense," he said from the
team's practice site at Tulane.
"They keep the ball from a lot of teams. You know that they are
doing to play as hard as they can to prove they belong here. We need to
prove it, too."
The Rams are making their third straight bowl trip and sixth in nine
seasons since Lubick took over the helm. It is the first time in school
history that Colorado State has played in three straight bowls. North
Texas earned a spot in the bowl by winning the Sun Belt Conference
title.
"If they can run the football, what they've done is keep games close
going into the third or fourth quarters, then put two or three
touchdowns on the board," said Lubick.
"They won't give up on the run. The big thing for us on defense is
to slow down the run on defense, and take care of the ball on offense."
Colorado State will hold its last full practice Sunday at Tulane,
then stage a brief walk-though in the Superdome Monday.
