Fort Collins, Colo./Dec. 14, 2001 - More than 120 players, along with
members of Sonny Lubick's coaching staff and support personnel left this
morning for Colorado State University's third consecutive bowl game
appearance.
Lubick has guided the Rams to five conference titles and six bowl
appearances in his nine seasons at the helm, including 2001 when the
Rams will face the University of North Texas in the first-ever New
Orleans Bowl (ESPN2; 6 p.m. CT/7 p.m. MT).
Friday, Lubick and the rest of the official travel party boarded buses
at the McGraw Center in Fort Collins at 9 a.m., travelled to Denver
before flying via charter aircraft to New Orleans.
"I know that our players are extremely excited about playing in this
bowl game. To say that you have been to three straight bowl games is
quite an accomplishment, especially for this group of seniors," Lubick
said.
Lubick said his team has been focused during its workouts in Fort
Collins, and he looks for the same concentration once the Rams arrive in
New Orleans, where they will hold two practices and a walk-through at
the game site, the Louisiana Superdome.
Once the team arrives in New Orleans Friday afternoon, they'll partake
in an orientation and photo session at the Superdome, then practice both
Saturday and Sunday from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at nearby Tulane University.
Monday, the team will stage a walk-through at the Superdome, then face
the Mean Green Tuesday night.
The past two seasons, the Rams made back-to-back appearances in the
Liberty Bowl after winning the Mountain West Conference title. The Rams
under Lubick made appearances in the 1994, '95, and '97 Holiday Bowls.
